Where is Hernandez Warren Now? 2024 Update

In December 1984, a profound tragedy struck the community of Cleveland, Ohio. Gloria Pointer, a vibrant 14-year-old student at Harry E. Davis Junior High School, was brutally murdered on her way to receive a perfect attendance award. Gloria, known for her sunny personality, love of cooking, and caring nature, had left her home slightly earlier than usual to visit a friend. This decision led to her encountering Hernandez Warren, a decision that had fatal consequences.

The Crime and Initial Investigation

Gloria was last seen making her way to school on the morning of December 6, 1984. Witnesses reported seeing her being followed and then grabbed by a black male. Hours later, her body was discovered at the bottom of a fire escape stairwell by an apartment building custodian. She had been beaten and sexually assaulted, a devastating end to a young life full of potential.

Despite the immediate investigation by Cleveland Police, FBI, and other agencies, the case remained unsolved for nearly three decades. The lack of substantial leads and information hindered the progress, leaving Gloria’s family and the community in a state of unresolved grief and uncertainty.

Breakthrough and Conviction

The breakthrough in the case came in 2013 when DNA evidence on Gloria’s clothing led to the identification of Hernandez Warren. Warren, with a history of criminal activities including rape and assault, was arrested and eventually confessed to the crime. His confession detailed the horrific events of that day, revealing that he was under the influence of drugs when he lured Gloria to the stairwell, raped her, and then brutally killed her.

In 2014, at 59 years old, Warren pleaded guilty to aggravated murder and rape. He was sentenced to thirty years to life in prison, with eligibility for parole in 2043. His confession and subsequent trial brought some closure to the case but could never undo the pain and loss suffered by Gloria’s family and friends.
