The Incident and Investigation

LaJoya McCoy, a 31-year-old single mother, boutique owner, and Los Angeles County auditor, vanished on June 10, 2015. Her disappearance triggered an intensive search that concluded with the grim discovery of her body in her car in Monrovia, California. The autopsy revealed that McCoy had been strangled with a rope and suffered multiple stab wounds.

The Suspect: Jose Roberto Turner

Turner, the father of McCoy’s two children, emerged as the prime suspect. Their decade-long relationship had ended two years before the murder, leading to a bitter aftermath. Turner, reportedly unable to accept the breakup, exhibited stalking behaviors and even threatened McCoy’s life.
