Her Final Days and the Love Triangle That Turned Deadly
In May 2022, Moriah traveled to Austin, Texas, to prepare for the Gravel Locos race, a high-profile event she was expected to win. She stayed with her friend Caitlin Cash. On the evening of May 11, she spent time with fellow cyclist Colin Strickland, someone she had briefly dated during a break in his relationship with his longtime girlfriend, Kaitlin Armstrong.
Later that night, Cash returned home to find Moriah lying in the bathroom, fatally shot. Emergency responders pronounced her dead at the scene. An autopsy confirmed three gunshot wounds—two to the head and one to the chest. Her bike, oddly, had been dumped in the bushes outside.
The investigation quickly turned toward Armstrong after surveillance footage showed her vehicle near the scene. Forensic evidence linked a spent shell casing at the crime scene to Armstrong’s firearm. Armstrong, reportedly driven by jealousy and suspicion over Moriah and Strickland’s friendship, had been tracking Moriah’s location. Two days after being questioned by police, Armstrong fled the country.
