On December 14, 2023, he ambushed her in their garage, knocked her unconscious with a blunt object, and fatally stabbed her in the heart. Afterward, he attempted to cover his tracks—disabling the security system, staging alibi text messages from her phone, and going about his morning routine as if nothing had happened.

The crime scene had no DNA linking him to the murder, but the digital evidence was damning. Investigators traced the fake emails to Krug’s work computer. Burner phones used in the harassment were purchased using a Visa gift card tied to his name. His own Google search history showed he had researched how to knock someone unconscious without leaving lasting damage. Surveillance footage also showed him leaving home 30 minutes later than normal, aligning with the estimated time of the murder.

Trial, Conviction, and Where He Is Now

In April 2025, after a multi-week trial in Broomfield County District Court, a jury found Daniel Krug guilty of first-degree murder, stalking, and criminal impersonation. Despite the absence of DNA or direct physical evidence, prosecutors successfully argued that the digital and circumstantial trail overwhelmingly pointed to Krug.

The court handed down a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole, with an additional nine and a half years for the stalking and impersonation charges.
